Residential rental providers should take advantage of our electrical safety check to ensure they are compliant with the new changes to rental requirements in the Victorian Residential Tenancies Regulations 2021.
The residential rental provider must ensure that an electrical safety check of all electrical installations, appliances and fittings are conducted every 2 years by a licenced electrician. If this has not been done in the last 2 years, it needs to be done as soon as it is practicable.
The residential rental provider must keep a copy of the current Electrical Safety Check, as well as a record of all electrical work performed on the property.
Smoke alarms must be correctly installed, in working condition and tested every 12 months. If they are not working, the residential rental provider must arrange for the smoke alarm to be replaced as an urgent repair.
